Adora Ellen (Dent) Mansfield

Ellen Mansfield was born on January 9, 1925 in Trenton, NE to Samuel L. and Lucille L. (Vastine) Dent. Ellen was the second of seven children. She passed away on November 17 at her home in Wray at the age of 91.

Ellen attended school in Trenton, NE until 1932 when the family moved to Colorado. The Dent family lived in the Sandhills where the children attended the Antelope School. Ellen would frequently talk about her and her brother, Paul, riding their horses to school no matter what kind of weather they were having.

Ellen married Bill Mansfield on September 5, 1941 in Benkelman, NE. To this union four children were born, Sharon Lee January 19, 1942, Monte Eugene October 20, 1946, Gary William April 9, 1948, and Jo Ellen November 12, 1950.

Bill and Ellen enjoyed traveling, fishing, and arrowhead hunting with their family. Ellen worked very hard on the farm milking cows, raising hogs and chickens, all while caring for and raising her four children.

Ellen always loved having family and friends around and cooking for everyone. She enjoyed playing cards and games, and she bowled on a league for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lucille Dent, her daughter, Sharon Mehl, her husband, Bill Mansfield, sister, Donna and husband, Rex McCourt, sister, Patricia and husband, Walter Ash, sister, Blanche and husband, Alvin Williams, brother, Paul and wife, Bessie Rosa Dent, and brother-in-law, Dave Reingardt.

Ellen is survived by her son, Monte Mansfield and wife, Gail of Idalia, CO, son, Gary Mansfield and wife, Sharilyn of Wray, CO, and daughter, Jo Ellen Goodman and husband, Steve of Thornton, CO and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Also surviving are sisters, Maxine Reingardt of Ft. Collins, CO, and Linda Lilly and husband, Bill of Rush, CO as well as many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado on Friday November 25th at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Glen Kline officiating. Honorary escorts were Ellen’s grandchildren, Mark and Shawn Mehl, Mike, Greg, and Brian Goodman, Jennifer Novak, Jeanne Jackson, and Jill Scott. Interment followed the services at the Grandview Cemetery in Wray.

Memorials may be made to the Wray Community District Hospital, 1017 W. 7th Street, Wray, Colorado 80758. Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado was in charge of arrangements.
