On May 7, 1949, Aaron Lee Irwin made his presence into the world to Howard Leonard & Thelma Marie (Williams) Irwin. He was the youngest brother to Howard JR and Harold.
He grew up in Parks, NE and spoke of his child hood there. He would spin tales of his adventures to Rock Creek where he learned how to swim. Aaron attended High School in Haigler, NE where he participated in sports and was an exceptional athlete. He graduated from Haigler High School in 1967. After High School he joined the US Army 82nd Airborne 173rd Infantry Division and served two tours in Vietnam. On April 29, 1972, Aaron married Janice Kay (Smith) at the Methodist Church in Haigler, NE. To this union two daughters were born, Janelle Marie and Michelle Lee.
Aaron enjoyed racing stock cars. He was the president of the SWNRA (Southwest Nebraska Racing Association) for several years. This hobby was a family activity as his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law were also involved with the sport. He and long-time friend Roger Samler, had mini-stock Ford Pintos that they raced locally.
He served as the Dundy County Weed Superintendent for many years and drove the North school bus route for the Haigler School District for many years. Upon his retirement he decided to start restoring old vehicles. The first was a 1967 International pickup that he owned for years prior to restoring it. He was proud of his of first accomplishment and it was also featured in a national publication. His final project at the time of his passing is a 1946 Studebaker pickup that once belonged to his neighbor down the street, Earl Erdman. He was a very talented and creative man. He touched the hearts of so many people and would lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. The world lost a great man, but heaven gained a wonderful angel.
Aaron is proceeded in death by his parents Howard and Thelma Irwin, twin brothers Dallas and Darrell, Brother Harold Irwin, Sister-in-Laws Diane Irwin and Berneta Smith, and Niece Barbie Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janice Irwin of Haigler, NE; Daughter Janelle Myotte of Yuma, CO; Daughter Michelle Peterson & Alex of Haigler, NE; Granddaughter Darrian Jones of Haigler, NE; Granddaughter Jolissa Wiggins of Yuma, CO; Grandson Clay Jones and Makala of Wray, CO; Grandson Micheal Peterson & Kylie of St. Francis, KS; Granddaughter Rebecca Peterson of Benkelman, NE; Great-Grandson Ryker Jones of Wray, CO and Brother Howard Irwin JR of Denver, CO. He also leaves behind many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
A Visitation/Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 27, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at the Haigler United Methodist Church in Haigler, Nebraska. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior. Interment will be held in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Chase County, Nebraska. Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
